Why your business needs an energy savings target

I recently had the pleasure of speaking on an energy efficiency panel for the Large Format Retail Association (LFRA).

With more than 100 major retailers in attendance, I was surprised to learn that only one company had an employee whose role was specifically dedicated to energy savings. Take a bow, Spotlight Retail Group!

It's understandable that everyone else in the room thought electricity costs fell somewhere between facilities management, procurement and accounting, but it's no wonder big bills are becoming such a major cause of lower profitability and competitiveness.

The key message is that energy efficiency is a C-suite responsibility. If energy savings aren't a Key Performance Indicator for your CFO, then as a CEO you aren't doing your job.

Luckily, there are brilliant yet affordable technologies available today which reduce electricity costs without requiring any changes in business operation.
